Happier
The two sat on the sofa together, leaning on each other. With the tip of her fingers, Eun Tak traced the Goblin’s face as if she could still not believe that he was back. His eyelids, his nose, and his lips. How had she not recognized him all this time? He had been so close.
“The more I think about it, the angrier I am. You said that you would come right back. You said that you would come as the first snow. Oh yeah, you did come as the first snow.”
“B’ will agree to be summoned every time the first snow comes. ‘A’ will be waiting.”
“Was the contract really the cause of your return?”
The Goblin nodded. He thought that he would be able to love Eun Tak one-sidedly, but now that it was two-sided, he couldn’t explain his emotions with words. Without hiding his love for her, the Goblin looked at Eun Tak sweetly.
“I told you to not leave me. How could you? I know that it was the only thing you could do, but how could you? With my hands.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright. You kept your promise. What did going back to nothing mean?”
“It meant not being able to see you.”
His words made Eun Tak sad. He would have had a worse time than her. She had lived 9 years without a single memory of him and still had been sad. How sad would he have been? And how sad would he have been when after those 9 years of waiting, his love couldn’t remember him?
“For some reason, I was like a madwoman when it rained. The pain in my heart increased, tears kept rolling down my face, I kept muttering to myself, and the medicine didn’t work. I’m sorry for not being able to live happily with the love you had already given me.”
“I’ll make you happier from now on.”
Eun Tak nodded vigorously and caressed the Goblin’s face in her hands. She was going to make him happier too.”
“I’m saying this because you probably have no idea, but did you know that you’ve been touching me for 30 minutes? I’m feeling a bit uncomfortable.”
“I’m just making sure. I’m just trying to sink it in. Just in case this is a dream.”
“It’s not a dream.”
“I’ve dreamed this dream too many times…”
Tears flowed down her face, and the Goblin embraced her quickly.
“I missed you. Very much.”
Eun Tak looked into the Goblin’s eyes, and looked at herself in the reflection. It wasn’t a dream.
“I love you. Very much.”
They talked all evening and all night. The sun came up, and it was time for Eun Tak to go back to Korea. When she was with the Goblin, Eun Tak could go wherever she wanted through a door, but she had to get her passport stamped for immigration. They had been apart for 9 years, but the next 17 hours seemed like hell.
Eun Tak dragged her luggage behind her and waved brightly to the man waiting at the gates of the airport. She ran up to him and embraced him with a hug.
“Did you wait long?”
“I thought I was going to die. Then the gates opened and I saw you.”
“Thought I was an angel, didn’t you?”
“No, not really.”
Eun Tak glared at him and tried to let go of his hand, but the Goblin held it more tightly.
“No way.”
He pulled her along the airport and went through the airport back into the Quebec hotel. The day was never going to end, but she didn’t mind. The wide hotel room looked as comfy as before. The Goblin smiled widely.
“Did you forget that your boyfriend is a Goblin?”
“Hey, this is cheating! This is so exciting! I forgot that your doors always lead to a wonderful place.”
Eun Tak jumped around the room excitedly, when the Goblin caught her in his arms with strong arms, and kissed her lightly. Her eyes were gleaming brightly.
The second kiss was more passionate than before. Breathing had already become a second priority. Eun Tak wrapped her arms around the Goblin’s neck and he lifted her up to kiss her with more comfort. The Goblin walked over to the bed, Eun Tak hanging onto him.
The sad destiny of the two people made them embrace each other more tightly.
