The Necklace Pendant

Goblin: The Lonely and the Great God - Chapter 46

Whatever the reason was, it was her first overseas holiday. Her heart had been racing ever since she had gotten aboard the plane, and now she finally stepped onto Quebec’s land, her heart was leaping about. Swishing her long coat around, Eun Tak looked around the beautiful place. Bright but dark colours were covering the top of the trees, and the falling leaves were welcoming her there like confetti. For the first time in a long time, she was truly happy. The fresh air cleaned out her lungs and heart. It seemed like a perfect day to find things out.

It wasn’t hard to find the hotel she had sent the letter from. The hotel, a castle-like building, roamed over the vast land; people could see it from everywhere. Eun Tak spoke to herself for a bit, trying to practise her amateur English, but found out that the staff at the front was a Korean person. When Eun Tak gave her the letter, the staff looked at the envelope and said that the envelope she had sent to herself was made around 10 years ago. There had been some letters stuck in the old letterbox, and so they had found them only a few days ago, and had sent them 10 years later. The staff bowed her head apologetically.

Eun Tak wasn’t upset; she hadn’t even known that she had sent such a letter. If the letter had been sent straight away, she would be looking at it and wondering what it was for 10 years like that memo.

The staff offered Eun Tak to stay at this hotel as a service for the inconvenience. She had picked a random cheap hotel before coming to Canada, and this hotel seemed to be welcoming her with its sparkling. Eun Tak gladly accepted it and went straight into the room to sort out her stuff.

The room she had been given was extraordinary. The large, comfy bed, the biscuits on the bar, the soap and shampoo, everything was so luxury. Even the scene outside the window was beautiful.

She decided to walk around the place a bit in case some things would make her remember something. The wind blew in her face, but for some reason it felt nice. Maybe this was why people went on holidays like this. A handsome man walked past Eun Tak and greeted her.

“It's nice to see you again.”

“Me too.”

The answer had come out of her mouth so naturally, she figured out something was wrong after taking a few steps. Eun Tak quickly turned around to find the man, but he was nowhere to be seen. How had he seen her before? She had never seen him before.

While thinking about who that man could have been, Eun Tak walked around a park. A woman called her suddenly, telling her to come towards her. The woman was looking at her necklace.

“Hello. It’s been a long time.”

Eun Tak blinked in confusion.

“That necklace you are wearing. I made it.”

The woman who handmade all her necklaces, had noticed the jewellery she had made. Had someone bought it for her, or had she bought it herself? Whatever the answer was, it wouldn’t make sense. The woman pointed at the words ‘Destin’ on the necklace.

“That is French for destiny made from the heavens. A destiny that is out of a human’s control.”

Destiny. Eun Tak fingered the pendant in her hand.

“Are you still living happily with the man who gave you that necklace?”

The woman’s last question stuck to her heart like an arrow.

The puzzle she was trying to solve had so many missing pieces, that there were more missing pieces than found. It was like walking through a tunnel with no end. She didn’t think she would be able to go any further.

As she kept walking through the streets, she was getting more used to her surroundings. It seemed like she had seen those buildings and trees before, she was getting used to the new setting. Eun Tak stepped backwards a few steps without thinking. That red door. She had seen that red door before. She had been through that red door before. Eun Tak stared at the door as if waiting for it to open.

Maybe the door had read her mind, or maybe she had secret super powers. The door opened. A man walked out of the door. It was that man.
