Goblin: The Lonely and the Great God - Chapter 43

The Handsome Stalker

Goblin: The Lonely and the Great God - Chapter 43

Eun Tak was sitting helplessly on the pile of books in the old bookstore. Nothing was going her way. A radio listener had called her and had given her some ridiculous feedback. She had answered in the way she always would have, but the listener wrote some nasty things on the radio homepage, and now the sponsors had all withdrawn their money. The annoying Chief Producer then told her that everything was her responsibility and that she had to get more sponsors. Everything was outraging Eun Tak; how in the world was she supposed to suddenly get new sponsors?

She took a deep breath and looked sideways at the sound of movement to see a hand pulling out a book. It was the man from the rooftop. As if he had been waiting for her to meet his eyes, the man smiled brightly.

Her eyes squinted in annoyance. Was he stalking her? She was starting to feel suspicious about this weird man. He was a weird man who didn’t even have 5 dollars to buy coffee.

After quickly walking out of the bookstore, Eun Tak looked behind to find the man walking not very far behind her. A group of high schoolers walked past, and Eun Tak started to mutter by herself, saying how it was nice to be young.

The Goblin bursted out laughing at Eun Tak’s elderly tone. It seemed like yesterday when she had burst into his room at exactly 12 o’clock, jumping and screaming that she was an adult now.

“Why are you laughing?”

“It’s cute.”

Eun Tak nodded, thinking about the high schoolers that had walked past. She had turned around to face him.

“Not them.”

Blood rushed into her face, and she quickly avoided his gaze.

“When are you going to return my 5 dollars?”

The grim reaper had been annoyed at him because he had been borrowing his hard earned money. Before the grim reaper had thrown a nasty tantrum, the Goblin had gone to find the Yoo family.

‘One day a man called Shin Kim will come to find you, let him inside and give everything that I own. You will know that he is Shin Kim, for he will walk through the pouring rain and leave in blue flames.’

The late Chairman Yoo’s will had everything ready for him, and so the whole Chun Woo Group had now become his. Paying back 5 dollars was not a problem anymore.

“If I have the 5 dollars ready, can we meet again? Will you come to me and get it?”

“On the day I have to go to you for five dollars, you will be paying a bigger price. You know what I mean, right?”

“Not really.”

“I’m saying that if we ever meet again, I’m going to report you to the police. It’s a bit too much to say that us meeting over and over again was a coincidence.”

The Goblin smiled at the girl's cuteness, but regretted straight away after seeing Eun Tak more angry at his smile. She demanded why he was smiling again.

“I’m just really happy. This moment and this day. I still can’t believe a second of it. Everything is just so perfect.”

She had no idea what in the world this man was talking about, so she decided to just avoid him. Before she got more confused, she decided that it was best to just ignore him. Never judge a book by it’s cover; he looked very normal, handsome actually, but everything about him seemed off. Even if every word he told her was warm and sweet, she didn’t want to care about the unknown man. So she turned back to the way she had been headed and started walking away. Eun Tak could hear the man muttering to himself.

“She’s leaving…”

Her heart dropped at the sadness in his voice and had no choice but to turn around again. Eun Tak’s heart and body didn’t seem like hers anymore, although it never really had.

“I listen to your radio programme. I always did.”

“How do you even know I work at a radio booth? This is just getting too suspicious. Before, I thought you were an actor, but you’re not an actor are you? I’m sorry, but what do you do for a living?”

The Goblin stared at her flustered at the sudden questions. He quickly avoided her gaze and looked around when he saw one of the Chun Woo Group’s buildings. He quickly told her that he worked there, because it was half true.

“What’s your title in that company?”

“Uh… I’m the… um… the highest person…”

The man’s stuttering made Eun Tak very frustrated and angry. He was a man who didn’t even have 5 dollars to buy coffee; he didn’t have the sincerity to lie properly. The man probably thought she was an idiot to be telling her such lies. She folded her arms against her chest and cocked her head in annoyance.

“Give me the contract paper you were looking at before. There was a Chun Woo Group’s contract there too right? I’ll give you the sponsor. That’ll prove that I’m the highest person there.”

Things were starting to move in a weird direction.

The fact that the man’s words were true was more surprising than the fact that he was the highest person in the Chun Woo Group. Her mouth hung open as she looked around the Chairman's room that she had entered thanks to the man. The acting Chairman didn’t even look at the contract paper before signing it.

“It’s supposed to be signed by the person in charge of the sponsors, but our lead representative asked me to do it specially.”

“Oh, is he the lead representative? Does he work here?”

“He doesn’t work.”

“Oh. How should I thank him? I actually don’t even know his phone number.”

Everything going on was just a whole load of mess. She couldn’t think straight. Who would have thought that the strange man she kept meeting coincidentally was actually the lead representative of South Korea’s largest company?
