Goblin: The Lonely and the Great God - Chapter 37

Overwhelmingly Perfect

Goblin: The Lonely and the Great God - Chapter 37

The place they came to was an empty pension. They cooked and ate food together, they leaned on each other and read books, they walked around together, and they watched the sunset together. On the terrace of the pension, the Goblin and Eun Tak watched the shining stars together. A smile was on Eun Tak's face and it never came off; if she had to draw what happiness was, she would draw this moment.

As the night became darker, the Goblin's heart sunk deeper and deeper, as if there was a weight on it. The place his heart had been was so high, it hurt more as it fell longer and further. This was going to be their first and last holiday; this was their farewell trip. They were doing things the Goblin had not managed to do before. The days felt so short; there were so many things he had planned for the next hundred years, but they only had a day left. He had not wanted to be in pain anymore, but whenever he looked at the lovely girl, his heart just ached with each beat.

‘B’ will agree to be summoned every time the first snow comes. ‘A’ will be waiting.’

He hoped that she wouldn’t wait.

Under the bright light of the moon, the Goblin cried. He didn’t want to die. He didn’t want to return anywhere. The only place he wanted to return to was where Eun Tak was.

“I’ve got you a present.”

But their end, their destiny, their answer, all in the end led to their parting. The Goblin had to die.

“But I’ve already got all I want. My life is overwhelmingly perfect right now.”

“It probably isn’t.”

The Goblin took out the contract from his pocket. For the last time, he wished that he would be able to keep at least this contract. All the wishes he had prayed for day and night had never come true, but he wished and wished that the gods would let him keep this contract.

“Oh, that’s my contract!”

“When you sign a contract, both people are supposed to have a copy of the contract.”

“That’s why I tried to forge another one; too bad I got caught. But what’s the real contract?”

Eun Tak took a look at the two pieces of paper and noticed which one it was straight away. The Goblin’s contract was the real one. She tried to swap the two papers around, but the Goblin lifted his hand high so she couldn’t reach.

“Why should you get the real one? I want the real one.”

Eun Tak jumped up to try to get the real contract, but the Goblin avoided her quickly. A smile spread on Eun Tak’s face as she ran after the Goblin. Because they could laugh all they wanted, because it was a night full of laughter, it was a sad night. It was a parting only the Goblin had gotten ready for. The Goblin stood stuck in the late winter, watching the early spring pass by him.

The Goblin found Duk Hwa at his company and seared him in his eyes. He also found Sunny and drew a picture of her in his mind. With his eyes closed, he wished all of them a peaceful and healthy life. After that, the Goblin waited for Eun Tak outside the university campus.

Eun Tak smiled again, as she saw the Goblin waiting for her.

“Turns out I can actually summon you with my thoughts. I just thought about you.”

She was a face he had seared into his mind over and over again, but for some reason her face was hard to remember whenever he wasn’t with her. He looked at her and tried to picture her in his head.

“Did something happen?”

Eun Tak was holding a large major book, and it made her really seem like a university student.

“I just wanted to see you, and I’ve also got a request.”

“Tell me.”

“It’s got something to do with Joong Heon Park.”

“Oh I’ve been wondering about that too. It just got me thinking; why did he suddenly appear after 900 years? It’s a bit weird, isn’t it?”

The Goblin grabbed Eun Tak’s hand and opened a door nearby. The place they came to was a windy building rooftop where people barely came to. After squeezing Eun Tak’s hand lightly, the Goblin let her hand go.

“You need to be brave for a moment. Could you do that for me?”

The girl nodded.

“Of course. I’m the Goblin’s bride.”

She had no idea why she had to be brave, but she was ready. Eun Tak was the brave and courageous Goblin’s bride. Oh and, the Goblin was going to be there with her.

The Goblin smiled at the girl. This was for their peace, but their peace was going to make them sad. Their peace had been hard to keep; the blocks he had stacked up started to crumble again.

“Listen carefully. A few minutes later, I’m going to call you. When I do, summon me straight away.”

Eun Tak took a lighter out of pocket. The Goblin nodded and started to walk back out of the door when his heart dropped again. He turned around and pulled Eun Tak towards him.

It was their last kiss. The Goblin wrapped his hands tightly round her cheeks and kissed her. Their lips interlocked, and the Goblin sighed. Breathing air was soon to be his last too; he wanted to give it all to her. He wanted her to live; he wished with all his soul, that he would live a long, happy, and beautiful life.

Their breath met. They lived in a completely different world, a world where no one had ever imagined existed. They found each other in the deepest parts of their heart.

Their last moments were full of desperation and sorrow.

The Goblin pulled himself away and looked at the girl. Eun Tak’s cheeks were burning at the sudden kiss, and he sighed once more.

“See you later.”
