Forget Me
On the campus bench, where the sun shone brightly, Eun Tak brought a cup of coffee to the grim reaper. He had needed someone to talk to, but the only person he could think of was Eun Tak.
The grim reaper had been thinking about this for a long time. When he had seen Sunny’s past life, and had heard the Goblin’s story, he knew that he was a part of the story. He just didn’t know who he was. The grim reaper was definitely a part of the Goblin’s story, and grim reaper’s were sinner’s in their past life.
“There are three people who sinned in the Goblin’s history. Shin Kim, who had killed thousands of people at wars. Yeo Wang, who killed Shin Kim and his sister, Sun. Joong Heon Park, who manipulated Yeo to kill the two siblings. Shin Kim is still alive; Sun Kim is Sunny… That means I’m either Yeo or Joong Heon. Well, that’s what I’ve got so far.”
Things that shouldn’t have made sense, made sense. The grim reaper looked at Eun Tak; there was a weird silence. Not being able to say anything, Eun Tak scrunched up the paper cup in her hand.
“But either or… I am Shin’s enemy.”
There was a slight tremble in his voice. The grim reaper was burning in the deepest hell; his heart hurt with every beat.
“Either or… I won’t be able to meet Sunny…”
*
After a few more days of thinking, the grim reaper came to see Sunny in front of her house. She knew that they had already broken up, and she knew that he was probably a grim reaper; but for some reason, the thought of seeing Woo Bin again made her heart flutter. She couldn’t stop this feeling; seeing as there were such things as past lives, she couldn’t help but think that maybe they had been lovers in the past. Maybe they were destined to meet again. If it wasn’t destiny, there was no way to explain why she had fallen for him at first sight. She wanted it to be destiny.
The grim reaper was standing gloomily in front of her house, when Sunny had managed to run down. Like always, he was wearing a black coat and black suit. He went around as if to tell everyone he was a grim reaper, but Sunny still wanted to ignore everything. She was just happy that they were looking at each other again.
“I just came out because I wanted the ring back. I remembered that we still have that excuse left.”
The grim reaper just looked at her.
“What’s with that weird expression? Did you not miss me? Isn’t that why you came today?”
“I did miss you, and that’s why I came. But because I don’t know who I am, so I step away, afraid.”
Sunny thought that he had come to try be friendly again, but now he was stepping away. Sometimes the things this man said made her so frustrated and angry. They had met and said goodbye to each other several times, but this time it really seemed like the last. If she could, she wanted to make him stop speaking. Maybe even cover her own ears.
“I know everything about me is wrong, but I hope, I really hope that this is right.”
“Don”t do this.”
“I’m alive with no name. Thank you for asking me how I was doing.”
“Please.”
The grim reaper heard Sunny’s desperation, but he had to keep talking. If he lost the chance today, he would lose the chance forever.
“... A grim reaper’s kiss will make the person remember their past life. I am afraid that I am not what you want me to be in your past life, so I hope that the life you remember only contains happy memories. Your brother will be a part of your memories. I hope that that brother is Shin.”
The grim reaper took a step forward and held Sunny’s cheek lightly. Her tear filled eyes closed and his lips met hers. The moment their lips met, memories of her past life filled her head.
‘The woman who loves you is the sister of a traitor.’
‘So keep going. Don’t stop until you reach the king.’
Hot tears fell down Sunny’s cheek. After the grim reaper stepped away, Sunny slowly opened her eyes. Tears dropped from the big eyes; the shock filled her. As if she was being swept away by tides, breathing was hard, and she wanted to get out of the sad memories quickly. Everything confused her. It had only been for a moment, but in that slight second, a whole person’s life was pictured vividly in her head. The memories were controlling every part of her body.
“What is this? What have I just seen?”
The eyes that looked at him were painful. It was only going to last a moment; he was going to let her forget it all.
“Your past life.”
The light of the streetlamp shone on them brightly. The grim reaper closed his eyes and opened them slowly.
“In your past life, was your brother, Shin Kim there? In your past life… was I there?”
She nodded. The grim reaper’s heart dropped; so he was someone in the Goblin’s story. In the tear-brimmed eyes, he could see himself. His reflection looked so sorrowful, today was another memory she was going to forget. The grim reaper was sorry, and sorry again. He wanted her to forget it all.
“With the bright happy memories, live on. I will take all your sad, and depressing moments. Whether it is your past or present life. Forget me. I hope that at least you will live a happy life with a happy ending.”
Sunny looked at the grim reaper, and the grim reaper hypnotised her. A tear fell from his eyes as he said his last goodbyes. The glint in Sunny’s eyes changed as her memories disappeared. The grim reaper took one last look at the beautiful woman and vanished into black smoke.
